Dr Bryan Tan is an Orthopaedic surgeon who is fellowship trained in Sports, Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.

He attended medical school in Singapore and obtained his medical degree (MBBS) in 2001. In 2007, he was awarded the Masters of Medicine (Orthopaedics) and in 2010, he passed the orthopaedic board examinations and was awarded the Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons in Orthopaedics, Edinburgh.

Subspecialty Training

In 2012 and 2013, he completed 2 fellowships in St Vincents Sportsmed, Sydney and in Centre Hospitalier Universitaire, L’Archet 2 Hospital, Nice, France under the reknowned Professor Pascal Boileau.

Work Experience

He worked in National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore in the Department of Orthopaedics, Division if Shoulder & Elbow Surgery as a full time staff from 2010 to 2016. He is currently still a visiting consultant with NUH, and is actively involved with teaching medical student and young training surgeons.


Dr Bryan’s expertise includes general orthopaedic surgeries, orthopaedic trauma, joint replacement, ligament reconstruction/ repair and Sports surgeries. He has a special interest in keyhole surgeries of the shoulder and elbow and has performed the largest number of bone transfer procedures via keyhole surgery (arthroscopic Latarjet Procedure), in Singapore. These complex procedures are performed in young, active patients with shoulder joint bone injuries causing recurrent dislocations.

Sports Injuries Experience

Dr Bryan has a keen interest in sports and was a school swimmer in his younger days. He currently participates in multiple sports including tennis, Muay Thai, powerlifting and wakeboarding and snowboarding, giving him a deep understanding of sports related injuries and how they can best be treated. In addition, he trains in Brazilian Jiujitsu several times a week.

Dr Bryan Tan has treated numerous national athletes and martial artists, helping them return to their winning ways after performing successful surgeries to treat their various injuries.

Staying ahead of the game

As medical science and techniques evolve rapidly, Dr Bryan Tan ensures that he stays at the cutting edge by regularly visiting foreign surgeons to exchange techniques and ideas. He is also passionate about conducting surgical courses to teach regional surgeons techniques in minimally invasive shoulder and elbow surgery.
